Technical Assistance on Transport Statistics
The project aims to contribute to the development of a harmonised information system on maritime statistics compatible with needs of reliable, updated and comparable information on maritime transport defined within the framework of the Euro-Mediterranean partnership and focusing on the specific needs of the Maghreb countries.
The project is addressed to the National Statistical Institutes, Ministries of Transport and Port Authorities and it is also meant to encourage the strengthening of co-operation between the various competent authorities in the Maghreb region.
The activities planned within the project include:
-Technical assistance for a detailed analysis of the statistics available from ports and identification of users needs;
-Technical assistance for the set up of the national databases and the provision of some basic computer equipment training through experts' missions to the countries;
-Sub-regional workshops and local training on maritime databases and data use and dissemination
-Study visits in a performing European port and/or to a national maritime information system
